Quick Tip
All exit devices can take outside trim, which bolts onto the
device from the outside.
Device Finishes

Finishes are pretty easy to understand. The only
confusing issue is all finishes have two names.
US3, for example is the "US Name" and 605 is it's BHMA
equivalent. They mean exactly the same thing.
Either name can be used when ordering.

Device Functions
The most confusing aspect of exit devices is outside trim, which
provides the device
function.
The functions below show the 22 series, but the same idea
holds true for all series.
|
Exit Device Functions |
| Trim |
Designation |
Notes |
|
None |
EO
Example Model: 22EO |
EO = Exit Only
No outside trim |
 |
L
Example Model: 22-L |
L = Lever
Key freezes lever in place. Use key again to free the
lever. |
 |
DT
Example Model: 22-DT |
DT = Dummy Trim
Trim acts as pull handle only. |
 |
NL
Example Model: 22-NL |
NL = Night Latch
Always locked from the outside. Use key to retract
latch. |
 |
NL-OP
Example Model: 22-NL-OP |
NL-OP = Night Latch, Optional Pull
Same as NL, but customer furnishes their own pull handle. |
If you think of outside trims as ''bolt-on'' accessories you'll be ahead of the game.
Most people have trouble getting the big picture.
Remember, the exit device always lets you out from the
inside so there is no function to think about from that side
of the door.
If you want to allow people in from the outside of the
door, you'll need to "bolt on" some trim. It's just
like bolting on 1/2 of a lock. And locks come in
different functions.
