You may also add an entry device such as keypad or card reader, but these are not required.

Add On Options

The circuitry inside a Chexit device is very advanced.  Many configurations are possible and can be adjusted in the field.

  • Remote Alarm - a separate alarm can we wired into contact within the Chexit device.  The alarm might be located at a nurse's station, for example.
  • Nuisance Switch - limits false alarms
  • Door Position Input - a door position switch can be wired into contacts
  • External Override - entry from the outside can we wired in if using a keypad or card  swiped to gain access.  Access is granted immediately with no 15 second delay.
  • Fire Alarm Input - a fire alarm system can be wired in that disables the Chexit delay.

Note: all Chexit devices come with a key switch built in that turns the Chexit feature on or off. It can also be used to reset the system. Also included is a built-in horn that sounds during the 15 second delay period.

Typical Installation

An Alzheimer's area of a nursing home is a common application.  It will require the standard Chexit components shown in the table above, plus two add-on options.

1] An external horn would be mounted near a nurse's station.  This horn will sound once a person has pressed the bar and the 15 second countdown has begun.  Remember, the device has it's own built-in horn, so this second horn would be mounted relatively far from the Chexit device.

2] A keyswitch is also commonly used on the inside of the door.  This allows employees to exit through the door without tripping the alarm.
