Hinges - Roton
They are a continuous, geared hinge that runs the full height of the door. It's easy to get confused ordering Roton hinges, but only because so many styles are available. Of all the styles, there are only a few that are commonly ordered. Roton StylesThere are just 3 basic styles to consider:
Full Surface Mount Both leaves of the hinge surface mount. This style is used on retrofit applications to rehabilitate a door. Butt hinges are removed and replaced with a Roton hinge.
Fully Concealed Mount Both leaves are concealed between the door and the frame. Only used on new construction. Butt hinges recess into the door and frame, leaving roughly 1/8" gap between the two. The Roton hinge is not recessed and requires more than 1/8" gap, which is why this style is not used on retrofit applications.
Half Surface Mount One leaf is surface mounted and the other concealed. Typically only used on new construction, but occasionally used in retrofit applications. Check your door gaps before ordering this on retrofit applications.
Ordering Roton HingesOrdering hinges is pretty straightforward once you've picked a model. You simply specify length and finish required. A standard commercial opening is 84" high, and a Roton hinge for that opening will be furnished at 83". Other lengths are available for non-standard openings, but these are not stocked in large quantities and we typically order them from the factory. The standard finish used is Aluminum with a clear coat, and it is ordered as "Clear", abbreviated by "CL". Dark Bronze anodized is the other finish available. It is abbreviated as "DA" for Dark Anodized. Example Models
