Norton Arms
Regular and Top Jamb mounting are almost identical. They use the same arm. The difference is Regular mounting is for installation on the Pull side of the door while Top Jamb is for the Push side. You just flip the closer over for Top Jamb mounting. Parallel mounting is for Push side mounting only, and requires the use of a special bracket. The bracket is appropriately called a Parallel Arm Bracket. Standard arms are Non-Handed.
You may swap out a standard arm for a specialty arm to add features to a standard closer. This includes adding the Hold Open feature, adding a stronger arm or adding the Stop feature. Norton has designed their closers so an arm from one series will fit onto a closer from another series. These are truly designed to be "mix and match". In short, once you understand the code for each arm you're good to go for all Norton closers.

The stop limits how far the door may open. It basically takes the place of a door stop mounted to the floor. CLP arms may be ordered with or without a Hold Open feature and neither version is handed. When ordered with Hold Open it will be a thumb-turn type holder. Ordering Examples:

Norton
arms are easier to understand once you know the three mounting
styles.
The
Hold Open arm replaces the standard arm when the Hold Open function
is needed. It can be used in any of the 3 mounting styles and is
Non-Handed.
When
mounting Parallel Arm style, you can beef up the arm by adding a
"rigid" arm. It is simply called a "PR" parallel rigid arm and
is non-handed.
The
"R" Rigid Arm replaces the Regular Arm used to mount either Top Jam
or Regular Arm style. It is just a heavier duty Regular Arm.
A
"Closer Plus" arm is a heavy duty rigid arm with a stop built into
the arm. It can only be used with Parallel Arm mounting style.
The
CPS arm is nearly identical to the CLP arm. It simply adds a
spring to the stop bracket. The spring cushions the opening
door, reducing damage to the door and hardware.
