78 Series

78 series pot belly closerTraditional style closer - also called a pot belly closer. This closer is handed and comes in two spring sizes.  Both sizes have a good deal of adjustment so you mainly have to worry only about your general door weight.

E-F Spring: for oversized doors

When ordering, you must specify "PA" for parallel arm mounting style, or specify "RA" for regular arm mounting style.  PA is used on the PUSH side of the door.  RA is used on the PULL side, which is the side with the hinges exposed.

1601 Closers

1601 norton door closerModel 1601 is the most copied door closer on the market.

One reason it is so popular is the bolt hole spacing.  The vertical holes are only 3/4" apart, making is easy to mount in even narrow stile applications

Another reason is that the 1601 is one of Norton's most adaptable closers.  It has a fully adjustable spring and is non-handed.  We stock it standard with the parallel arm bracket included in the box, allowing you a total of 3 mounting styles.

1601 bolt hole patternIf ordering as a replacement closer, first check the bolt hole pattern.

Most closers have no model number on the body, and you have to rely on the bolt holes to determine model number.

7500 Series

7500 Norton CloserNorton's model 7500 is designed for industrial use and high traffic doors.

Extra heavy duty components allow for long life even in high use applications.

All arm options are available as well as the delayed action option.

  • Non-handed, field reversible
  • Rack and pinion operation
  • Adjustable back-check plus sweep and latch speed valves
  • Full metal cover included
  • Extreme temperature fluid allows operation to -40 degrees
  • 10-year Norton warranty

mounting optionsThe standard arm that comes with the 7500 allows for Regular Arm mounting or Top Jamb mounting.

For Parallel Arm mounting you need to add a "P" before the model number: P7500.

But there are two Parallel arms available, the standard "P" or the "PR" for Parallel Rigid arm.  The "PR" arm is stronger and it's best to use this option by ordering a PR7500.  It will hold up better over time.

7500 = Regular Arm
P7500 = Standard Parallel Arm
PR7500 = Heavy Duty Parallel Arm

8000 Series

8301 Norton CloserWithin the 8000 series, only two models are ordered:

8301 - Narrow style cover (shown left)

8501 - Standard cover (shown below)

8501 Norton CloserEvery door closer manufacturer makes a standard Series that can be used for most every door in your building. With Norton, it is the 8000 Series.

The only difference between the two models is the cover.  So it's a matter of personal style to choose the 8301 or 8501.

  • Non-handed, field reversible
  • Adjustable opening and closing force
  • Adjustable back-check plus controls for sweep and latch speeds
  • Furnished with Tri-Pak mounting kit for installation in 3 mounting styles
  • Extreme temperature fluid allows operation to -40 degrees
  • 10-year warranty from Norton

bolt hole patternThe bolt hole pattern is very important when selecting a closer.

The 3/4" vertical spacing of the 8301 and 8501 allows the closers to mount to most any door in a building.

Note that every manufacturer produces a "Universal" closer.  Only Norton offers such a model with the narrow bolt hole pattern.
