When ordering, you must specify "PA" for parallel arm mounting style, or specify "RA" for regular arm mounting style. PA is used on the PUSH side of the door. RA is used on the PULL side, which is the side with the hinges exposed.
One reason it is so popular is the bolt hole spacing. The vertical holes are only 3/4" apart, making is easy to mount in even narrow stile applications Another reason is that the 1601 is one of Norton's most adaptable closers. It has a fully adjustable spring and is non-handed. We stock it standard with the parallel arm bracket included in the box, allowing you a total of 3 mounting styles.
Most closers have no model number on the body, and you have to rely on the bolt holes to determine model number. Ordering: call toll free or order

Extra heavy duty components allow for long life even in high use applications. All arm options are available as well as the delayed action option.
For Parallel Arm mounting you need to add a "P" before the model number: P7500. But there are two Parallel arms available, the standard "P" or the "PR" for Parallel Rigid arm. The "PR" arm is stronger and it's best to use this option by ordering a PR7500. It will hold up better over time. 7500 = Regular Arm Ordering: call toll free or order

The only difference between the two models is the cover. So it's a matter of personal style to choose the 8301 or 8501.
The 3/4" vertical spacing of the 8301 and 8501 allows the closers to mount to most any door in a building. Note that every manufacturer produces a "Universal" closer. Only Norton offers such a model with the narrow bolt hole pattern. Ordering: call toll free or order
