Every door closer manufacurer makes a standard Series that can be used for most every door in your building.
With Norton, it is the 8000 Series.
The idea is simple. Make a fully adjustable closer that is non-handed and can mount easily.
Model 8301 include a narrow style cover. If you want the look of a full-sized cover, then order model 8501.
The two models are identical except for their covers. Therefore, the difference is cosmetic only.
Most interior doors in a building are either solid wood or solid metal with no glass.
There is plenty of room to mount door closers since there is no glass to get in your way.
Most buildings also have some doors with glass and that rarely presents a problem for Norton's 8301.
It has a narrow body footprint and the bolt holes are only 3/4" apart.
This allows mounting onto door even if there is minimum room available.
The Norton 8000 Series also has a full compliment of specialty arms available such as Hold Open and Closer Plus Spring Arms.
Ordering specialty arms can be confusing since most manufacturers use different arms with each Series.
Norton has done a great job of allowing you to mix and match arms across different series.
Once you learn their designation for each arm function you'll have it down for all their closers in production.
