Overview

Offers tradtional style closer with upgraded features.

When replacing a Pot Belly closer, first check your existing bolt hole pattern. Then check the image below to ensure the bolt holes will match.

Bolt Hole Pattern for Norton 78

When ordering, specify spring size by ordering either B/D or E/F. Size B/D includes an adjustable spring from size 2-4. This covers standard door sizes (3.0 x 7.0) for interior doors. If you have a larger door, or have an exterior door, order size E/F. The spring for size E/F adjusts from size 5 to 6.

Spring size can be confusing but becomes a little easier with a few tips:

  • A standard sized (3.0 x 7.0) interior door takes a Size 3 spring.
  • A standard sized (3.0 x 7.0) exterior door takes a Size 5 spring.

Exterior doors require a larger spring because wind can cause the door to be harder to close. The stronger spring helps close the door against the wind.

Handing

We stock the 78 Series as handed, but you can reverse the arms in the field.

A few highly specialized arms are truley handed, but these are almost never ordered. We do not stock these arms.

Brackets

Brackets may be ordered here.

Norton produces 5 speciality brackets, we stock 3. The brochure offers good descriptions of each bracket. Two of the brackets are for square corner applications. They differ in the spacing of the bracket to the closer

Other brackets are made for arched doors, also called radius doors. These doors are curved at the top making it difficult to mount a standard door closer. The specialty curved brackets allow for placement of the bracket onto the arched door frame. You will be limited to the location of the bracket along the radius of the frame. This is because a proper angle is required for the closer to apply it's leverage on the door.
