Tips From The Pros

Use the 505EIR when controlling access to a single door. If you have multiple doors to control, look at Lockenetics models 510 and 515.

These days, there are all types of Input Devices and Output Devices available. Example input devices: Keypad, Card Swipe, Prox Reader. Example output devices: Mag Lock, Electric Strike, Electrified Lock.

The 505EIR can handle all types of devices by use of dip switches included with the unit. During installation, set the dip switches to send either continous our intermittent power to each of the devices.

Use of the EIR module is optional, but it is now included with every 505. EIR stands for Emergency Interface Relay and is just a fancy name for Fire Alarm Module. If you have a fire alarm system, wire the system into the EIR Module. It will unlock the door if the alarm should sound.

The idea is to allow access to emergency personnel if the fire alarm sounds.

Product Options

There's really only two options for the 505: Locking Cover and Battery Backups.

The Locking Cover option simply keeps people out of the unit unless they have a key.

The Battery option is a little trickier. You have a choice of buying a single battery or double battery backup.

Most people buy the single battery if they've decided to operate in 12VDC. When operating in 24VDC the double battery is best.

The duration of backup battery power depends on the draw of the system. For example, a mag lock requires constant power to be locked. This will obviously draw more than an electric strike which needs only intermittent power.

Low voltage components don't draw much power so instead of focusing on amps focus on the type of draw. Continuous draw will drain a battery more quickly than intermittent and 24v draws double the power of 12v.

If there's concern about the time a battery will last, order the double battery to be safe.
