Overview

Locknetics 390DEL is a Delayed Egress lock (DEL) which means it does not unlock immediately upon activation.

Once activated, an internal timer begins a countdown that unlocks the door when it reaches zero.

Delayed Egress locks are used in applications like hospitals and retirement homes to control the exiting of unauthorized people. Locknetics model 390DEL is designed for these special applications.

Tips From The Pros

A typical installation of model 390DEL would be an Alzheimer's wing of a hospital. It is common in these areas for people to push on doors without realizing what they are doing. When this occurs, the Locknetics 390DEL detects the door movement and goes into action by beginning the timer countdown.

At the same time, a built-in siren sounds to warn workers that someone is at the door and trying to exit. The timer delay allows workers to get to the door and take the appropriate action before the door unlocks.

There are times when authorized exiting is required and the iButtons furnished with the unit accomplish this task. A worker with an iButton can reach up and press it to the reader on the 390DEL to gain immediate approval for exiting. Two iButtons are furnished with the 390DEL and more can be added. Up to seven iButtons can be programmed into the 390DEL without using a separate programming module.

Fire codes allow for Delayed Exiting in these special cases. Most cities allow a delay up to 15 seconds and the 390DEL is pre-programmed for this time. You can also special order a 30 second delay model from the factory, but this is only allowed with special permission from local fire code inspectors.

The Locknetics 390DEL is designed to include all the features required for NFPA Life Safety Code 101 and BOCA.

The features of the 390DEL and Locknetics model 101 are very similar. The primary difference is the 101 includes an audit trail feature while the 390DEL does not.
