Ives Finishes

The trick to understanding Ives Finishes is to pay attention to the base metal used to make the product itself.  Many times, the base metal is brass which produces a bright, clean finish.  Other times, the base metal may be steel or aluminum.  Steel produces a good finish, only slightly below that of brass.  But aluminum causes finishes to be dull and unattractive, but are available at 1/3 of the cost or less.

This is an example of a handrail bracket that is offered in both brass and aluminum finishes.

HB159B is the brass version.

HB159A is the aluminum version.

A high end application will require the brass version with it's fine finish, at a cost somewhere around $ 7 each.  A different application may focus more on budget and can accept the poorer quality finish, but at a price around $ 2 each.

It's simply a matter of weighing cost over looks and deciding which is better for each job.  That is why Ives offers you the choice of base metals.

Like most things, Ives prices just seem to climb higher and higher. We're always looking for way to save our customers a few buck on a job and we typically tell them about Hager and Don Jo equivalent products.  While we ship these other lines from the factory, they usually ship within 24 hours and offer a substantial cost savings.
