Hager Hinges

Product Tips

Hager has been known for their hinges for over 100 years.

They make commercial grade and residential hinges as well as specialty hinges. In short, there's not too many hinges out there that Hager doesn't make.

The factory stocks all but the most unusual hinge types and finishes. That means you can order most any hinge and we'll have Hager ship it to you within a couple of days.

TIP: Finish determines the base metal being used to construct the hinge. For example, a stainless finish requires the base metal to also be stainless.

Other finishes, such as satin chrome can be made from less expensive steel base metal. You may also request that the base metal be made from brass, which produces a finer finish. Note that brass hinges are less durable but more expensive than steel.

A finish that causes the most trouble is US10B, oil rubbed bronze. A true 10B finish is only applied to a brass base metal, making these very expensive hinges. A better alternative is to use a steel base metal with a duranodic finish. It is about 1/2 the cost and the finish lasts much longer.

roton

Roton Hinges

Product Tips

Roton is a trademark name of Hager's continuous hinges.

These hinges run the full height of the door frame and attach with screws every few inches. This makes a Roton hinge incredibly strong as the weight of the door is distributed evenly along the frame.

Roton hinges have the advantage of eliminating door warp which makes them very popular, especially in high traffic applications.

TIP: Roton hinges are often specified for new construction, but can be used to rehabilitate old doors as well. It takes a lot of work to retrofit a standard 3-hinge installation to a Roton hinge due to all the screws to install. But it saves the cost of a new door and frame and most people find it is well worth the effort.

thresholds

Thresholds and Weatherstrip

Product Tips

Hager produces a full line of thresholds and weather-stripping. You'll find their prices are typically lower than other brands.

Note that these items are well stocked at the factory in standard lengths. If you have an odd sized door, order the standard length and cut it down in the field. This will save you in both cost and lead time.

We keep on file cross reference guides that help us cross over model numbers from Pemko, NGP and others.

TIP: Architectural specifications typically pay little attention to thresholds and weather-stripping and concentrate on the ''big'' items like locks and closers. Big mistake. Locks and closers are easy to install and are more or less standardized.

But thresholds and weather-stripping deserve much more attention as their design varies widely. A mistake with these items can cause installation nightmares and affect the total door installation.

It's important to understand that the specs are often wrong. While it is OK to bid what is specified just know going in that you'll want to review these products closely and change them as needed.

door trim

Door Trim

Product Tips

Door trim is the industry term for door stops, push and pull plates, and any other miscellaneous hardware.

Hager produces 1,000's of products and finishes. This is the reason why we ship all Hager products from the factory. There are just too many combinations to stock them all.

When ordering standard trim products such as push plates or door stops you'll find there are many choices. However, from all the choices only a handful of items are ''standard''. For example, push plates come in all sizes but only two are standard. 4 x 16 is standard for commercial projects and 3.5 x 15 is standard for residential.

You'll save yourself a lot of time and money by using standard items. Just tell us about your product needs and we'll help you select a standard item.

locks and closers

Locks, Closers and Exit Devices

Product Tips

Within the past few years Hager introduced their line of locks, closers and panic devices.

Before introducing these lines they spent several years testing the products to ensure they met or exceeded industry standards. Although relatively new to the field, these items are good commercial quality and available at very attractive prices.

We often have customers call for a price quote on Schlage locks for example. If substitutions are allowed, we'll also supply an equal quote for Hager locks. When customers realize they can save 25-30% on cost they are very happy to give the Hager locks a second look.

If you need more information about Hager door hardware we have a full range of data sheets and installation instructions available. These are also online at Hager's web site.

finishesFinishes are available in the standard architectural finishes or sprayed finishes for some items.

Sprayed finishes are similar to that of door closers and are much less expensive. A sprayed finish is indicated by ''SP'', such as SP28, SP10, etc.
