Ordering overhead stops is fairly simple if you follow a few basic rules.
First, if a door closer is also being used, pay attention it's mounting.
You don't want the arm of the closer to interfere with the arm of the overhead stop.
This rarely is the case, but always be on the lookout for potential conflicts.
Secondly, overhead stops are sized.
This means different models are used with different door widths.
- 27-33'' - model 813
- 33-39'' - model 814
- 39-45'' - model 815
- 45-51'' - model 816
To complicate matters further, the above sizes are for standard hinges and pivots with an offset design.
Should you be using center hung pivots, the chart changes. See the manufacturer's brochure for the center hung chart.

The last area of concern is the mounting. Both the door and the frame should be reinforced where the unit mounts.
With metal doors and frames, a 1/4'' steel plate is welded to the backside.
This area must be drilled and tapped for the mounting bolts.
When possible, a more secure installation can be accomplished by using through bolts.
