Ordering Tips

Glynn Johnson designed the 410 Series to be installed on doors opening between 85 and 110 degrees.

It is available as a stop only (S), stop with hold open (H), or stop with friction hold open (F).

The H version has a control knob used to turn the hold open function on and off. During installation, the hold open position is set and the same position is used each time. Once set, the door always holds open in that same position.

The F version, Friction Hold Open, allows for multi-point hold open positions. This means you can open the door to any position and let go and the door will hold in place.

To order, determine your door width (see listing below). Next, decide if you need stop only or one of the hold open options.

The Glynn Johnson 410 Series overhead stops are sized. This means different models are used with different door widths.

  • 18-23'' - models 411S, 411H, 411F
  • 23-27'' - models 412S, 412H, 412F
  • 27-33'' - models 413S, 413H, 413F
  • 33-39'' - models 414S, 414H, 414F
  • 39-45'' - models 415S, 415H, 415F

Since a standard commercial door is 36'' wide a Size 4 stop would be used

The next step is to decide if you need a stop only, or a stop + the hold open feature.  The designation for stop only is "S" and for hold open it is "H".  Below is a chart for both series showing size and feature designation.

MODEL STOP ONLY STOP w/HOLD OPEN
412 412S 412H (or F)
413 413S 413H (or F)
414 414S 414H (or F)
415 415S 415H (or F)
416 416S 416H (or F)

Product Tips Quick Tip

Both the door and the frame should be reinforced where the unit mounts. With metal doors and frames, a 1/4'' steel plate is welded to the backside. This area must be drilled and tapped for the mounting bolts. When possible, a more secure installation can be accomplished by using through bolts.
