Electric Strike
Mounted in the frame, the strike opens when activated, which allows entry from the outside by simply pulling on the door.
There are many types of electric strikes. Each one is designed to work with one type of hardware (standard lock, mortise lock, exit device, etc.)

Transformer
Reduces the power from 115V down to 12VDC or 24VDC.
There are transformers that plug into an electrical outlet and also transformers that are hard wired.

Push Button
Pressing the button completes the electrical circuit, thereby activating the electrical strike.
There are many types of buttons available, but the most popular for this application are small and fit under a desk.

Operation:
Press the button to activate the electric strike.
Notes:
1. You can buy electric strikes that buzz when activated, but they cost more money.
Most strikes just ''click'' when activated.
2. The most difficult part of installing the system will be running the wires.
3. Most el. strikes require some modification of the door frame. This can be difficult and time-consuming.
Strikes are available today that easily replace the frame preparation of your existing lock strike.
These types of strikes are easier to install, though you still may need to ''notch'' the frame.
